The Project:
Achieving a manageable process for dissertation defense submission, approval and website display. This multi-step process had become convoluted over the years using a variety of free web plug-ins and Google forms. My goal was to streamline the technology into an easy to use web process.
Achieving a manageable process for dissertation defense submission, approval and website display. This multi-step process had become convoluted over the years using a variety of free web plug-ins and Google forms. My goal was to streamline the technology into an easy to use web process.
The Details:
Working with our Drupal content management system, I developed a form outside of the existing Google Form the unit was using. The form needed to be accessed by faculty, staff and students so I tied its access to our institution's single sign on credentials. I furthered the process to an approver stage - whereby staff received an email notification to review and approve the dissertation defense submission. When the staff, who was not website specialists, approved the submission, the information and details would populate to a list of upcoming defenses, as well as render in a new Calendar view.

The users found the new process much easier and security protocols were extended by keeping the data on a single server/cloud.
